Optics11

Optics11 provides unique measurement solutions for mechanobiology and soft matter research. Our technology is based on two key elements: fiber-optical sensing and state-of-the-art mechatronics. This combination allows the development of cutting-edge measurement systems which are competitive in the Life Science field.

Optics11 has refined the Fabry-Perôt fiber-optical interferometry technology to be extremely sensitive, affordable and user-friendly. Additionally, our fiber-based sensors, probes, are embedded in all indentation systems, providing a unique solution for micromechanical analysis of soft and/or living matter. Also, these sensors enable new research in the fields of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, where material mechanics are key for healthy cell differentiation and maturation, and eventually successful tissue formation, as well as manufacturing techniques such as 3D bioprinting or microtissue casting.

Services

Our mechanical studies open up new possibilities in tissue engineering by meeting the need for local material characterization combined with high sensitivity, compatibility and ease of use. Even time-limited experiments are easy to handle due to our pre-calibrated probes. The Optics11 Nanoindenters can measure complex materials with uneven topography and analyze various mechanical properties at once, such as stiffness, viscoelasticity, creep and stress-relaxation.

The Piuma Nanoindenter is a compact, benchtop device designed to easily mechanically characterize larger soft samples such as engineered tissues, spheroids or  3D printed biomaterials.

Our Chiaro instrument is specifically designed for dual-use with any existing inverted microscope to enable mechanical characterization of small samples such as cells or microparticles.

We have just developed the Pavone platform, which is worlds first fully integrated indentation, imaging and incubation system. Being 96-well plate compatible, the Pavone enables high-throughput quantification of large sample sets of living tissues or cells.
