R&D-Newsletter ZHAW, June 2022, No 64
Version Deutsch

Dear colleague

Before the summer holiday period commences, we are pleased to once more provide you with exciting information about research at the ZHAW. With a view to European research, we would first like to inform you about two networking events at the ZHAW and about the new Gender Equality Plan that has been put together by the ZHAW. We also invite ZHAW researchers to share their experiences working with scholarly publishers as part of the EQUAP2 project and provide information about the new format for CVs, which will have to be used from autumn 2022 when submitting applications for project funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation.
The penultimate article in this edition of the newsletter looks back at the first plenary assembly of the digitisation initiative of the Zurich universities (DIZH), which was held on 10 May 2022 at the Zurich Museum of Design.
Finally, we shed light on goings-on within the ZHAW itself, where we have some news from the ZHAW’s Project Data Base, the ZHAW Services Research Data and where the revised Regulations on Academic Integrity at the ZHAW have now entered into force.
I wish you a fantastic summer!

Manuel Bamert
Deputy Head, Research & Development Unit

Networking as a success factor in European research - and how ZHAW can contribute to it
A good network is a crucial success factor in Horizon Europe proposals. ZHAWs R&D/Services Unit is hosting two events in June and September 2022 to outline how the ZHAW can support this networking.

ZHAW Gender Equality Plan
Since 2022, universities in EU member states or associated states have been required to have a Gender Equality Plan (GEP) in place in order for their researchers to be able to participate in Horizon Europe. Even though Switzerland is not affected by the regulation as long as it remains a third country, R&D/Services has prepared a GEP for the ZHAW in consultation with and with the support of the Diversity Unit and Human Resources. The purpose of this document is to record in as general a form as possible existing measures at the ZHAW that are aimed at strengthening equal opportunities. The text of the GEP is therefore based on existing documents (gender policy, diversity policy, etc.), provides links to and takes quotes from these documents and shows which measures the ZHAW is implementing with the resources at its disposal. Should you have any questions about the GEP, please do not hesitate to contact Patrik Ettinger.

Survey on experiences with scholarly publishers
Publishing and reviewing scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals is part and parcel of the everyday professional lives of many researchers. The organisation of the peer-review process and selection of submitted manuscripts are among the most important services that publishers and journals have to provide. Nevertheless, we receive very different reports that range from praise for exemplary review processes to criticism of those that are somewhat more questionable.
For this reason, the ZHAW University Library is inviting all researchers working at the ZHAW to take part in the EQUAP2 survey and share their experiences as authors, reviewers and/or editors. Your participation in the attached survey is possible until June 30, 2022.

EQUAP2 is a TU9 cooperation project that is being conducted in collaboration with the University Library of the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Zurich Central Library, Basel University Library, Bern University Library, the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries and the Swiss Library Network of Education and Research.
Should you have any questions about the survey and this topic, please do not hesitate to contact the ZHAW University Library.

New SNSF CV format
From 1 October 2022, a new CV format will have to be used for the submission of applications for SNSF project funding. It is expected that this format will be extended to all SNSF funding instruments by 2023. The format was already tested back in 2020 by the SNSF’s Division III (Biology and Medicine) as part of the SciCV pilot and, according to the SNSF, appears to be well suited for all disciplines. The universities of applied sciences were invited to comment on the template at that time. The specifications for the new format are in line with the recommendations of the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). R&D and Business Services will attempt to obtain a suitable template by the October deadline, one that will also be valid following the pilot phase. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Martin Jaekel.

DIZH plenary assembly
Two years after the operational start, the first DIZH plenary assembly took place on 10 May 2022 at the Zurich Museum of Design. The aim was to promote dialogue and networking among DIZH members. Individuals already associated with the DIZH were able to find out more about its activities and the people behind the respective functions. The next plenary assembly is set to take place in 2023. In addition to DIZH affiliates, the plenary assembly is also open to all DIZH university members who are interested in the digitisation initiative of the Zurich universities. Feel free to send us an e-mail and let us know of your interest so that we can invite you next year.

Kickoff for the further development of the ZHAW research database
The further development of the ZHAW research database with around 4300 registered research and development projects of the ZHAW, started these days.

Data for different stakeholders
The ZHAW research database is an important instrument for many tasks and stakeholders, for example:
• as an addition for the profile page of the researchers with their projects,
• showing the research activity of the ZHAW on the website,
• useful for media to do research in a specific topic,
• Derivation of key figures for internal and external reportings (e.g. annual recording of research projects in the energy sector for the SFOE).

Technically better und more user-friendly
To optimize the data collection and data output, the ZHAW research database will be development further in various levels, like the improvement of the technical base or a more user-friendly data entry. New features and processes will, amongst others, make the data maintenance easier and will ensure a high quality of the data. The data protection is as well a special focus.

Needs assessment and stocktaking survey
In the first phase, the Research & Development Unit will work out a concept together with ICT regarding the further development of the ZHAW research database. This process includes the evaluation of the current database and the recording of further needs of the researchers and organizational units of the ZHAW. The goal is, to start in the beginning of the year 2023 with the technical development.

New Competences at ZHAW Services Research Data
We would like to welcome Anna Daudrich and Wolfgang Stettler to the Services team.
Anna started her position at the University Library in February 2022 and enriches the team with knowledge and experience in data management plans, data publishing and archiving, and data protection and information security.
Wolfgang is already a long-time employee of ICT and moved to Research Technologies as of June 2022. With his ICT background, he is an excellent addition to the team to support, help shape and develop the services from the technology side.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Vanessa Klaas, researchdata@zhaw.ch
The ZHAW Services research data offers can be found on the Self Service Portal at " Working & Studying at the ZHAW" ➔ Forschungsdatenmanagement (intern)

Revised Regulations on Academic Integrity at the ZHAW
In spring 2021, the Swiss Academies of Arts and Science, together with swissuniversities, published the new "Code of conduct for scientific integrity", which defines basic principles for academic integrity as well as principles for how to proceed in the event of academic misconduct at universities. The ZHAW subsequently reviewed the compatibility of the new code of conduct with its own principles, processes and bodies. The result is the revised Regulations on Academic Integrity at the ZHAW, which were adopted by the Executive Board in March 2022. These govern, among other things, both the procedure and the individuals involved in the event of any suspicion of academic misconduct. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact R&D and Business Services
