Der «Digital Futures Fund» geht in die nächste Runde! Alle Mitarbeitenden an der ZHAW, die eine innovative Idee im Bereich der digitalen Transformation erarbeiten oder testen möchten, können nun einreichen. Für den zweiten Call können laufend Projekte unter diesem Link eingereicht werden. Dreimal im Jahr wird mithilfe des Digital Futures Lab entschieden, welche Projekte gefördert werden. Zum ersten Mal geschieht das Ende 2020 für bis am 6. November 2020 um 23:59 Uhr eingereichte Projekte. Im Januar wird dann kommuniziert, welche dieser Projekte von ZHAW digital gefördert werden. Von den im Mai eingereichten und geförderten Projekten des «Digital Futures Fund» sind viele schon abgeschlossen oder stehen kurz vor dem Abschluss. Im letzten Newsletter haben wir eine Liste aller gefördertern Projekte publiziert und bereits über zwei Projekte informiert. Weitere Beispiele:

• Nico Ebert, Institut für Wirtschaftsinformatik, untersuchte in einer Studie die Einstellung der Bevölkerung zu einer Contact-Tracing-App (z.B. SwissCovid).
  Hier geht’s zu den Ergebnissen.
• Am Institut für Marketing Management gibt es jetzt einen Chatbot, um die vielen grundlegenden Fragen zum Weiterbildungsangebot am Institut zu beantworten. Den Chatbot von Rolf Rellstab und seinem Team könnt ihr hier ausprobieren.
• Im September organisierte Frank-Peter Schilling vom Institut für angewandte Informationstechnologie die internationale Konferenz ANNPR über die neuesten Fortschritte auf den Gebieten der neuronalen Netze, Deep Learning und künstlicher Intelligenz bei der Mustererkennung. Die Konferenz mit Teilnehmenden aus zehn Ländern hat online stattgefunden. Auch KI-Superstar Jürgen Schmidhuber war dabei. Hier könnt ihr nachlesen, was auf der Konferenz so gelaufen ist.

Steht ihr mit eurem DFF-Projekt kurz vor dem Abschluss und möchtet dieses euren Kolleginnen und Kollegen unbedingt sichtbar machen? Dann meldet euch gerne bei Bettina Mack und Frank Richter Mit ihnen könnt ihr geeignete Wege finden, um über eure Projekte zu berichten.

Als erste Fachhochschule weltweit bietet die ZHAW frei zugängliche Onlinekurse (MOOC) auf der Online-Lernplattform edX an. Das ist ein grosser Meilenstein für ZHAW digital und die gesamte Hochschule! Neu auf der Plattform von edX sind die ZHAW-Kurse «Global Business and Human Rights» und «Aquaponics – the circular food production system».

Mit dem elektronischen Unterstützungstool myScripting lassen sich schnell und systematisch didaktische Designs für Präsenz-, Blended-Learning- und Online-Kurse sowohl auf Moodle als auch auf edX erstellen. Das Tool schlägt für ein Unterrichtssetting kontextabhängige Aktivitäten vor, welchen Themen und Lernphasen zugewiesen werden können. Zusätzlich stehen Design-Templates für zentrale didaktische Ansätze wie Flipped Classroom oder Problem-based Learning zur Verfügung. Ausserdem können rollenspezifische Outputs des Lehr- und Lernprozesses erstellt werden. Weitere Informationen sind in dieser Publikation enthalten. Das Tool wird am 5. November 2020 von 11.45-12.45 Uhr vorgestellt.

«Miro» bietet eine Vielzahl von Möglichkeiten für kollaborative Unterrichtsszenarien und interne Workshops. Seit dem 1. Oktober ist «Miro» für alle ZHAW-Mitarbeitenden im Pilotbetrieb per ZHAW-Account (SSO) mit voller Lizenz verfügbar.

Die Veranstaltung «Digitale Transformation im Zentrum der internationalen Wirtschaft und Politik» findet nun definitiv online am 19. November von 17 bis ca. 18:30 Uhr statt. Unser Gastredner, ehemaliger deutscher Vize-Kanzler und Wirtschaftsminister Philipp Rösler, freut sich auf herausfordernde Fragen zum Thema Digitalisierung, Gesellschaft, Politik und Wirtschaft.

Die Schweizer Digitaltage finden in diesem Jahr – Trommelwirbel – digital statt! Vom 1. bis 3. November könnt ihr an über 400 Events teilnehmen. Na gut, ein paar davon finden vor Ort statt, ganz old school. Eine Übersicht findet ihr hier.

Die ZHAW ist natürlich dabei:

• Am 2.11. (19 Uhr) stellt Andri Gerber ein Videogame vor, das das Verhältnis von Stadträumen und Ansteckungsgefahr spielerisch thematisiert.

Die Anlässe dauern jeweils 15 Minuten und sind auch später per Videostream verfügbar.

Welche Chancen entstehen durch die digitalen Technologien für die Soziale Arbeit? Mit dieser und weiteren Fragen beschäftigen sich Fachleute aus Praxis und Forschung während der Tagung «Sozial und digital: Wie wir neue Chancen nutzen». Die Teilnahme ist online möglich.

Important upcoming events

The “Digital Futures Fund” has started a second round! Everyone working at the ZHAW who would like to develop or test an innovative idea in the field of digital transformation can submit it. For the second call, projects can be submitted continuously via this link. Three times per year, the Digital Futures Lab will co-decide which projects will be funded. The first deadline for submission is 6 November 2020 at 11:59 p.m. In January, “ZHAW digital” will announce which projects will receive funding.

Many of the “Digital Futures Fund” projects, that were submitted and funded in May, have been completed or are about to be. In the last newsletter we have published a list of all funded projects and informed about two projects. Here are more examples:

• Nico Ebert, Institute of Business Information Technology, conducted a study to examine the attitude of the population towards a contact tracing app (e.g. SwissCovid).

• At the Institute of Marketing Management there is now a Chatbot to answer the many basic questions about the continuous education offered at the institute.

• In September, Frank-Peter Schilling from the Institute of Applied Information Technology hosted the international conference ANNPR on the latest advances in neural networks, deep learning and artificial intelligence in pattern recognition. The ZHAW is the first university of applied sciences worldwide to offer freely accessible online courses (MOOC) on the online learning platform edX. This is a major milestone for ZHAW digital and the entire university! New on the edX platform are the ZHAW courses «Global Business and Human Rights» and «Aquaponics – the circular food production system».

With the electronic support tool myScripting, didactic designs for courses in presence, Blended Learning, and online formats can be created quickly and systematically. The tool suggests activities for a context-specific lesson setting to which topics and learning phases can be assigned. In addition, design templates are available for central didactic approaches such as Flipped Classroom or Problem-based Learning. Furthermore, role-specific outputs of the teaching and learning process can be created.

“Miro” offers many opportunities for collaborative teaching scenarios and internal workshops. As of 1 October, “Miro” is available with a full license in a pilot mode for all ZHAW employees with a ZHAW account (SSO).

10 first steps provide information on what you absolutely need to know to get started. More useful information are available on the portal Digitale Lehre under Miro. The Blended Learning support unit wishes you a lot of fun and creativity with the versatile boards!

The event “Digital transformation at the center of international business and politics” will definitely take place online on 19 November from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Our guest speaker, the former German Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Philipp Rösler, is looking forward to challenging questions about digitisation, society, politics, and business.

This year the Swiss Digital Days take place - drum roll - digitally! From 1 to 3 November you can participate in over 400 events. All right, some of them will also take place as a physical event, very old school. You can find an overview here.

The ZHAW will host three events:

• On 2 November (7 p.m.) Andri Gerber will present a video game that playfully explores the relationship between urban spaces and the risk of infection.

What opportunities do digital technologies create for social work? This and other questions will be addressed by experts from practice and research during the conference "Sozial und digital: Wie wir neue Chancen nutzen". Online participation is possible.
