Wie viel Schweizer Hate Speech gibt es eigentlich auf Social Media? Über die Verbreitung von Hate Speech und Fake News in der Schweiz gibt es nur wenige Daten. Pius von Däniken vom ZHAW Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CAI) erklärt im Blogbeitrag, warum das so ist.

Am Schweizer Digitaltag stellt die ZHAW Projekte rund ums Thema Künstliche Intelligenz vor. Die Veranstaltung findet in der neuen ZHAW-Eventlocation statt, dem Nüü. Komm vorbei am 10. November zwischen 16 und 22 Uhr an der Lagerstrasse 45 in Zürich!

• Das Bier geht auf's Haus! Habt ihr schon mal bei einem Roboter Getränke bestellt? Bezahlt wird mit Daten, beziehungsweise einem Foto von euch.
• Auf der ganzen Welt stehen Webcams und zeichnen ihre Umgebung ununterbrochen auf. Das Kunstprojekt “Watching the World” erstellt daraus eine beeindruckende Live-Collage.
• Nehmt ein kurzes Jobinterview-Video von euch auf, um die Fairness von Algorithmen zu testen. Ihr erhaltet nämlich Feedback von einer KI.
• Besucher*innen können ihre Gehirnaktivität messen und diese auf einem Screen darstellen. In einem Spiel können sie mit ihren "Gedanken” die Steuerung übernehmen.

Eine Anmeldung ist nicht nötig. Der Eintritt ist kostenlos und bedingt ein Covid-Zertifikat.

Für fachfremde Personen ist es oft schwer nachzuvollziehen, wie Künstliche Intelligenz funktioniert. ZHAW-Forschende entwickeln Methoden, die helfen sollen. Manuel Holler hat z.B. ein Workshop-Konzept entwickelt, um die Grundzüge von KI spielerisch zu erklären.

Träumst du davon, einen MOOC-Kurs zu erstellen? Dann ist jetzt genau der richtige Zeitpunkt, denn jetzt startet der Aufruf zum Einreichen von Anträgen für die unterstützte Produktion von MOOCs an der ZHAW. Dieser Call ist offen für alle Kurse, die entweder auf der globalen Plattform edX.org oder der Schweizer Plattform swissmoocservice.ch platziert werden sollen. Was alles zu beachten ist sowie das Antragsformular und Kontakte findest du auf der ZHAW MOOCs Informationsseite.

Die aktuelle Frist zur Einreichung von Projektanträgen aus dem Themenbereich der digitalen Transformation läuft am 15. November 2021 aus. Doch keine Angst, es gibt einen zweiten Vergabezeitpunkt: 28. März 2022. Alle Kriterien und Rahmenbedingungen zum DFF sowie Informationen zu Beurteilung und Auswahlverfahren findest du in der Ausschreibung.

Einblick in ein DFF-Projekt
Bedingt durch die Corona-Pandemie verbrachten viele ZHAW-Mitarbeitenden ihre Arbeitstage im Sommer 2020 überwiegend oder ausschliesslich im Home-Office – oft gemeinsam mit ihren Kindern. Diese neue Einheit des Ortes wirkte sich überwiegend positiv auf das Familienleben aus, fasst Julia Quehenberger ein Ergebnis ihrer Studie zusammen.

Was ist dir beim Essen in der Mensa wichtig? Worauf achtest du besonders? Ein DFF-Projekt will herausfinden, wie sich die Digitalisierung auf unser Mittagessen auswirken kann. Aquaponics neuer Lauf bis Februar 2022
Weisst du, was Tomaten und Fische gemeinsam haben? Zu diesem Thema haben bereits hunderte von Interessierten den ZHAW-MOOC Aquaponics – the circular food production system besucht und abgeschlossen! Mitarbeitende und Studierende der ZHAW haben die Gelegenheit, diesen Kurs kostenlos mit einem Zertifikat abzuschliessen. Kurs-Dauer: 6 Wochen, Arbeitsaufwand ca. 4-6 Std./Woche. Der aktuelle Kurs läuft noch bis Mitte Februar 2022.

Das Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD) hat unter dem Titel «Digitalisierung in Studium und Lehre gemeinsam gestalten» seinen ersten wissenschaftlichen Sammelband zu innovativen Formaten, Strategien und Netzwerken in der deutschen Hochschullandschaft im Open Access veröffentlicht. Im Buch werden die wichtigsten Entwicklungslinien und Trends für die Hochschulbildung in den 2020er-Jahren sowie auch Erfahrungen mit Digitalisierung und Kulturwandel aufgezeigt.

How much Swiss hate speech is there really on social media? There is little data on the spread of hate speech and fake news in Switzerland. Pius von Däniken from the ZHAW Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CAI) explains in this blogpost why this is the case.

On the Swiss Digital Day, the ZHAW presents Artificial Intelligence projects. The event takes place in the new event location by ZHAW digital, the Nüü. Come by on 10 November between 4 and 10 p.m. at Lagerstrasse 45 in Zurich!

• Beer is on the house! Have you ever ordered a drink from a robot? Accepted payment method: your data in form of a photo of yourself.
• All over the world, webcams are continuously recording their surroundings. The art project “Watching the World” creates an impressive live collage from this
• Record a short job interview video of yourself to test the fairness of algorithms. You will receive feedback from an AI.
• Visitors can measure their brain activity and display it on a screen. They can also play a game while using only their “thoughts”.

No registration is necessary and the entrance is free, but you'll need to show your Covid certificate.

For people outside the field, it is often difficult to understand how artificial intelligence works. ZHAW researchers are developing methods to help. Manuel Holler, for example, has developed a workshop concept to explain the basics of AI in a playful way.

Are you eager to produce a MOOC course? Then now is exactly the right time to do so, as the call for proposals for the supported production of MOOCs at the ZHAW is open now. This call is open for all courses that are to be placed on either the global platform edX.org or the Swiss platform swissmoocservice.ch. Please visit the ZHAW MOOCs information page to find out what you need to know, to get to the application form and find the experts.

The current deadline for submitting project proposals in the area of digital transformation is 15 November 2021. But don't worry, there is a second deadline: 28 March 2022. All criteria and framework conditions for the DFF call as well as information on the evaluation and selection process can be found in the call for proposals.

Insight into a DFF project
Due to the Corona pandemic, many ZHAW employees spent their workdays in the summer of 2020 mainly or exclusively in their home offices - often together with their children. This new unity of place had a predominantly positive effect on family life, Julia Quehenberger summarises one result of her study.

The Hochschulforum Digitalisierung (HFD) has published its first academic edited volume on innovative formats, strategies and networks in the German higher education landscape in open access under the title «Digitalisierung in Studium und Lehre gemeinsam gestalten». The book highlights the most important lines of development and trends for higher education in the 2020s, as well as experiences with digitisation and cultural change.
